Charles Darwin Trail is the start of the Blue Mountains Cliff Top Walk

In 1836, Charles Darwin walked from the Weatherboard Inn along Jamison Creek to the cliff's edge to where 'an immense gulf unexpectedly opens through the trees, with a depth of perhaps 1,500 feet'. The track was formally opened in 1986 and now leads from Wentworth Falls train station all the way to the top of Wentworth Falls. Lots of bridges, shallow waterholes, boardwalks and sheltered overhangs make this an ideal family walk.

This is the start of the Great Blue Mountains Cliff Top Walk between Wentworth Falls and the Scenic Railway at Katoomba. The walk starts from Wilson Park at Wentworth Falls (a short walk from Wentworth Falls Railway Station).

Note the section between Fletcher Street and the National Park at Wentworth Falls is still closed as is the last section between Katoomba Falls Reserve and Scenic World.

Grade: Easy

Time: 1 hour 30 minutes to the Wentworth Falls or approx 6-7 hours to Scenic World

Distance: 3.1 kilometres one way to Wentworth Falls Waterfall or 21Km to Scenic World

Closest public transport: Wentworth Falls Railway Station is 300 metres from the start of the walk. Local bus 685 runs past the corner of Fletcher St and Falls Rd, 500 metres from the picnic area where the walk ends.

Finding the track

From Wentworth Falls railway station, turn right onto the Great Western Highway and then turn left into Falls Road at the first set of traffic lights. On your left, you'll see a play park and tennis courts. In the park, adjacent to the tennis courts, is a large sign indicating the beginning of the Darwin Trail.
